چکیده

Induction heating has been employed to rapidly raise the temperature of ferrous specimens prior to testing at strain-rates > 10 s". The results show a general tendency for the ductility of a specially-processed pure iron to decrease with temperature over the range tested (20400 C). Based on the experimental data and the results of numerical simulations of the experiment, an empirical fracture model has been derived for the iron which gives fracture strain as a function of state-of-stress and temperature. Recently, the induction heating technique has been extended to nonferrous materials. High strain-rate tests on 99.9% pure copper revealed no significant effect of temperature on ductility over the range of start temperatures employed (20-300 C).

HOT CRACK FORMATION IN PURE CU AND CU-30%ZN ALLOY DURING IN SITU SOLIDIFICATION

The hot cracking susceptibility can be determined by establishing the transition temperature between brittle and ductile fracture at high temperature tensile testing of in situ solidified samples. High temperature tensile properties were determined for commercial cathodic pure Cu and Cu- 30%Zn alloy. The transition temperatures for pure Cu and Cu-30%Zn were evaluated from ultimate tensile stres...

Dynamic and Quasi-Static Tensile Properties of Structural S400 Steel

The study of mechanical behavior of the structural steel S400 under quasi- static and dynamic loading has been the subject of this investigation. In oder to obtain different stress - triaxiality conditions the specimens were notched with 1, 1.5, 2 and 3.5 mm notch radius. The results of fractography show as the velocity of tension increases, ductility reduces and a ductile-brittle transition oc...

Effect of Ti on Charpy Fracture Energy and Other Mechanical Properties of ASTM A 710 Grade B Cu-Precipitation-Strengthened Steel

Addition of titanium (Ti) to ASTM A710 Grade B Cu-precipitation-strengthened steel significantly increases the impact absorbed fracture energy and reduces the ductile-to-brittle transition temperature. The effect of Ti correlates with the reduction of the amount of pearlite in the ferritic microstructure. A thorough study of the mechanical properties of Ti-modified A 710B steel is presented. In...

Effect of strain rate on ductile fracture initiation in advanced high strength steel sheets: Experiments and modeling

Low, intermediate and high strain rate tensile experiments are carried out on flat smooth, notched and central-hole tensile specimens extracted from advanced high strength steel sheets. A split Hopkinson pressure bar testing system is used in conjunction with a load inversion device to perform the high strain rate tension experiments. Selected surface strains, as well as local displacements, ar...

The effect of temperature and strain rate on elongation to failure in nanostructured Al-0.2wt% Zr alloy fabricated by ARB process

A nano/ultra-fine grain Al-0.2wt% Zr alloy was produced by accumulated roll bonding (ARB) processafter 10 cycles. The fraction of high angle grain boundaries increased from 8% to 65.4% during 10passes during ARB process. This alloy was subjected to tensile test at different temperatures (523,573and 623 K) and strain rates (0.1 and 0.01 s-1). The optimum condition of temperature and strain rate ...
